PaRappa The Rapper Wiki

Hello, everyone! Today, we’re going to be talking about Um Jammer Lammy, and I have a theory.

For those who don’t know what Um Jammer Lammy is, Um Jammer Lammy is a PS1 rhythm game about a lamb named Lammy that was released in 1999. It’s a spin-off of Parappa The Rapper. The game is about Lammy trying to get to her concert on time. Btw, her anxiety is so relatable.

Anyways, as a Parappa The Rapper fan, I really loved this game. I also loved how Parappa made appearances in the background. Not only that, but Lammy also appeared in Parappa The Rapper 2, which was released in 2001. I liked this scene because I like the idea of Parappa and Lammy being friends. (Not shipping) However, I can’t believe Sunny didn’t help him when she had the chance. (This is one of the reasons why I don’t ship Parappa X Sunny.)

However, little do some people know, Lammy has a dark secret. No one knows her secret. Not even herself. But how is this possible?

Well, you see, the game was originally made in Japan / Europe. In one cutscene of the game, Lammy gets launched onto an island and then has to battle to get to her concert. However... this isn’t originally what happened...

You see, a lot of the lines from the original game were censored and had to be changed. For example, in the original version, Chop Chop Master Onion sang at the beginning of the game, “So you can play in Hell, you come far!” However, this was changed everywhere except Japan and Europe, so unless you grew up in Japan or Europe, Chop Chop Master Onion didn’t say this, and instead said, “So you can in an island, you come far!” Some of you might be thinking, “Oh, so they changed it to a nice little reference to what was going to happen next, pretty cool!” However, that’s not exactly the case. (More words about that later)

Another time lyrics were censored was in Power Off, Power On. Paul Chuck’s lyrics were censored, and it’s easy for me to understand why. In the original version, Paul said, “Chop all of them down, every single one down, because we’re gonna make a guitar with all the timber sound!” However, in the censored version, Paul instead said, “Come on and get down, way single one down, then we’re gonna make a guitar with all the timber sound!”

Even things in multiplayer were changed in Um Jammer Lammy. Originally, Rammy (Lammy’s evil twin) didn’t say, “Okay, you win, I guess I’ll just go home now”, but rather, “Okay, you win, I guess I’ll just go back to Hell now.”

What exactly is the dark truth behind Um Jammer Lammy the title is talking about? Well...

Refrences like these were also changed in Parappa The Rapper 2. Originally, Guru Ant didn’t say, “I am the man, everybody knows my name”, but instead, he said, “I am the lord, everybody knows my name.” This was most likely changed because they didn’t want religious references in their games.

Also, Beard Burger Master didn’t originally say, “Burgers, burgers is all we have in mind, we cook the best, you better get in line”, but he instead said, “Burgers, burgers is all we have in mind, we cook the best, tastes better than wine.” This was changed. Why? I don’t know. Guess they didn’t want alcoholic references in their game.
